Near-IR:
  • Basic Theory of NIR versus Mid-range IR
  • Hardware used; types of NIR equipment
  • Qualitative applications
    • Software
    • Identification of materials (raw materials, counterfeit materials, clinical studies)
    • Polymorphic states, degree of crystallinity
    • Optical isomers
    • Blend uniformity
  • Quantitative applications
    • Software
    • Particle size

  • Regulatory considerations for the FDA

Terahertz Spectroscopy:
  • General Introduction about Vibrational spectroscopy in the far IR
  • Setup of a tetrahertz spectrometer, comparison with a conventional FT far IR spectrometer setup.
    • Instrument setup in transmission, reflection and ATR
    • Application of tetrahertz pulsed spectroscopy (TPS) to study the crystalline state, polymorphism, amorphous state
    • Application of TPS to study different hydrate forms
    • Application of TDS in kinetic studies
    • Application of TPS for low temperature spectroscopy
  • Setup of a terahertz pulsed imaging (TPI) system
    • Application of TPI for coating thickness and quality analysis
    • Application of TPI to non destructively investigate buried structures in tablets.
